  • International Day of Peace
  • On Sunday, the 21st of September there are several in which you can honor the International Day of Peace (see a partial list below).
Please, even if you are not able to make it to the events described below, remember this day in your own way.

    Las Vegas Events
    1. The Lotus in the Desert sangha is having it's "Lotus Day of Mindfulness at Mount Charleston" from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We will be at our traditional site off the Bristlecone Loop Trail 148 in Lee Canyon, the 1st (fire) road to right past Lee Canyon Meadows. Will try to have a Tibetan prayer flag marking the entrance to the parking lot, the trail and the Aspen Grove. The grove is about a 25 minute hike, mostly along a fire road.
What to bring: water, lunch, blanket or yoga mat for yoga and recalling. Something long sleeve as there where hints of a cool breeze. Optional but recommended: your favorite poetry, prose (or your own work) that relates to nature, peace, life, or the Dharma.

    2. In support of the International Day of Peace, the Religious Science Church in Las Vegas has scheduled several activities with visiting Tibetan Monks on Saturday and Sunday (20th and 21st). The contact information is

    Regionally, Nationally, or Internationally

There are numerous websites that provide in depth information. What follows is just a start.

  • 1. The following message about the International Day of Peace is from the UN website. To read more, go to their website at: http://www.un.org/events/peaceday/2003/

The General Assembly, in resolution 55/282 (PDF), of 7 September 2001, decided that, beginning in 2002, the International Day of Peace should be observed on 21 September each year. The Assembly declared that the Day be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day. It invited all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, regional and non-governmental organizations and individuals to commemorate the Day in an appropriate manner, including through education and public awareness, and to cooperate with the United Nations in establishing a global ceasefire.

"Twenty-four hours: to give relief workers a safe interlude for the provision of vital services; to offer mediators a building block towards a wider truce; to allow all those engaged in conflict to reconsider the wisdom of further violence."
    -- Kofi Annan --
    United Nations Secretary-General

Best Wishes Beloved Ones

I often feel that death is not the enemy of life, but it is our friend, for it is the knowledge that our years are limited, which makes them so precious.--Joshua Liebman

People so often give up in death and that is a pity. Death is not a tragedy to be feared, but actually it is an opportunity for transformation.--Sogyal Rinpoche

Death is the opening of a more subtle life. In the flower, it sets free the perfume; in the chrysalis, the butterfly; in man, the soul.--Juliette Adam

IMAGINE...

if we got a big news anchor to devote a website, and television channel exclusively to report all the positive and inspirational miracles that happen each day...

The human body, at peace with itself, is more precious then the rarest gem. Cherish your body, it is yours this one time only. The human form is won with great difficulty, it is easy to lose. All worldly things are brief, like lightning in the sky; This life you must know as the tiny splash of a raindrop; A thing of beauty that disappears even as it comes into being. Therefore set your goal, make use of every day and night to achieve it. ~ Tsong Khapa ~
